Ask Mark: Will I be in a class with students with the same English level as me?

17.08.2026

There is nothing more frustrating than being in a class where students are at a different level to you. If they are too weak, you might feel you are wasting your time and become bored, whereas if they are stronger, you may get left behind. This is why each student at the school does a free placement test at the school to check their level and to help us find the right level for them.

The test itself is nothing to worry about. The adult test has between 40 and 60 questions and becomes progressively more difficult as the test goes on. Similarly, the children’s test starts very easy, with the option to stop at any time if the questions get too difficult. Following the written part, you will have the pleasure of speaking with me to find your speaking level and to discuss the best course for you. There is no need to worry. Whether you are a complete Beginner or Advanced in English, the questions will be graded at a level that is right for you.

We divide the young learners into 3 groups: Juniors (4–6 years old), Middle School (7–11 years old) and Senior School (11–15 years old), so children study with students of a similar age. However, due to different abilities in English, one class may have students of different ages. For example, a Big English 3 group might have 8, 9 and 10 year olds in the same class.

The most important thing is that we want every student to be in a class where they feel comfortable, but also challenged. Nobody wants to spend a whole year studying English that is too easy for them, and nobody wants to feel that they are constantly struggling to keep up.

Come and make the first step in your English Adventure and reserve a free placement test with us. We have regular testing most weeks, as well as official placement testing weeks which we advertise on our website and Facebook. Whatever your level, we have a course for you here at English Academy Varna.
